Quadkids is a big hit in Newcastle
On 29th June 09 in National Schools Sports Week, Newcastle-under-Lyme School Sport Partnership (SSP) held its first ever Quadkids event. The event was run at Wolstanton High School and incorporated 389 Year 3 and 4 pupils from the Wolstanton Cluster. St Margarets Junior School, Bradwell Primary, Hempstalls Primary, Bursley Primary and Ellsion Primary bought along all their
Year 3 and 4 pupils to take part in this exciting pilot.
The event was organised by Andy Moon (competition manager) and Daniel Caines (quadkids) and was supported on the day by Danny Robb (Wolstanton SSCO), 18 Young Leaders from Wolstanton high and 8 Young Leaders from Chesterton Community Sports College.
The event included a 50 metre sprint, 400 metre jog, a standing long jump and a mega vortex howler throw. Every single pupil competed in each event and scored points for themselves and their school dependent on time or distance achieved.
The weather was fantastic and the performances even better. 389 children competed in an event which took just 2 and half hours to complete and introduced these schools and Newcastle SSP to the Quadkids concept. The results are shown below and took into consideration the top four boys results and top four girls results from each school:
1st - St Margarets
2nd - Hempstalls
3rd - Ellison
4th - Bursley
5th - Bradwell
Thanks to all the leaders, SSCOs, Wolstanton High School and Daniel Caines for making the day a huge success and we look forward to more Quadkids in 2010.
