Burntwood and Lichfield School Sport Partnership - July News Round - up
After a busy year, July saw a host of activity from the Partnership with competitions and coaching in cricket to fencing and dance to wheelchair basketball !
As a result of a successful cricket coaching programme from Staffs Cricket Association the Partnership Kwik Cricket competition saw over 90 children participate.
In the boys' competition, St Chads fought hard to win their final and the girls' competition was won by St Michaels who narrowly beat Springhill to be crowned the winners.
In National School Sports Week the Partnership, amongst other activities, organised for schools to experience some Olympic sports not usually on the curriculum. Year 9 and 10 at Chasetown Specialist Sports College and year 6 from Chasetown Community School both received Fencing instruction. Coaches from British Fencing introduced the excited pupils to ‘counter – repostes’ and ‘envelopments’.
As a follow up to the Playground to Podium Programme the SSCO from Chase Terrace Technology College, Pat Bateman, invited Wolverhampton Rhinos coach Alan Caron in to demonstrate and coach wheelchair basketball to KS3 and year 10 pupils. The kids were all introduced to chair and basketball skills and played small sided games. The day was a great success with children of all abilities learning new skills.
Following attendance at Girls' Active Regional Day, girls from Chase Terrace Technology College were motivated to organise a ‘Girls Get Fit Together’ evening which comprised a range of events including a mile run and beauty treatments. They managed to raise an amazing £600 for the Race for Life charity.
The Partnership has also seen a range of cluster athletics events held for 20 primary schools in July assisted by Community Athletics Coach Billie Alcock. Over 500 pupils have benefitted from the work put in by Billie and SSCO’s.
Finally, children from Charnwood Primary and Rocklands Special School staged a song and dance Showcase at the Lichfield Garrick which was produced by Louise Glynn who said afterwards, ‘The performance went really well, and I am proud of all the pupils for putting their hearts into it.’
