Community Games - Get Involved!
Community Games provide a great opportunity for you to bring your community together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games aren’t just about four weeks of sport in London; they’re a culmination of a four-year celebration of culture and diversity in communities up and down the UK.
Community Games are one of the programmes Inspired by London 2012, bringing people of all backgrounds together in towns, cities and villages right across the West Midlands to take and play their part in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
By holding your own Community Games, the inspiration of London 2012 will be coming to your community!
Part of the West Midlands Culture Programme for London 2012, Community Games are unique to the West Midlands and are inspired by the unique Olympic heritage of the West Midlands, the Wenlock Olympian Games. These have been held annually in Shropshire since 1850 and were the inspiration behind the modern Olympic
movement.
The aim of the programme is to bring communities together, supporting them to organise a Community Games for their community, which might be their street, estate, local interest group – essentially the Games will be run by communities for communities.
The programme is funded by the Legacy Trust UK, and SASSOT will be supporting local communities and Community Games organisers to stage their own Community Games in 2011 and/or 2012.
SASSOT are currently recruiting for Community Games Trainers / Advocates and Ambassadors, so if you think you can fulfil one of these roles please contact;
