Annual Report

 

SASSOT's Annual Report for 2009/10 has just been published and is available on the website and in hard-copy (contact 01785 619349 for a hard-copy).

 

  

The report sets out the achievements and future plans of Partners and contains many examples of Partnership working making a real impact on increasing participation in sport, PE and physical activity.    Many thanks to all Partners who contributed to the Annual Report and in making 2009/10 a year of success. The SASSOT team look forward to working with Partners in the future.

SASSOT Sports Club Accreditation
Funding - 5th Round Open

 

The SASSOT Sports Club Accreditation funding scheme was launched in September 2009 with the aim to increase the number of sports clubs being accredited or re-accredited with Clubmark, NGB Accreditation or the SASSOT QualityMark.  

 

Evidence collected suggests that accredited clubs have, over the past two years, increased junior participation, raised the number of active, qualified coaches and improved levels of coach qualification, thus making them more effective and sustainable community sports clubs.

 

So far £13,805 has been distributed to help over 37 sports clubs achieve club accreditation/re-accreditation. (Please click on the ‘how to apply’ web-link below to see which clubs have been awarded funding). 

 

The 5th round is now open and funding is available to sports clubs who require financial assistance to achieve and pass their accreditation criteria although it cannot be used for NGB coaching qualifications. Sports clubs requiring funding for coaching qualifications can apply to the SASSOT Coach Scholarship funding scheme.

 

All sports clubs benefiting from this funding must be based within Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent to qualify and commit to achieving accreditation within 6 months.

 

Applications can only be received from sports clubs, NGBs, Local Authority or SSP partners. NGB, LA and SSP partners can submit applications for more than one sports club. All applications will be assessed by the SASSOT Workforce Steering Group. 

 

   

 

Cannock Rugby Club, Eccleshall RUFC, Fenton Manor Netball Club, Harriers Netball Club, Leek Amateur Swimming Club and Tean Valley Netball Club were all successful in securing funding in Round 4 for club accreditation or re-accreditation.

Aiming High: Disability Sport and Physical Activity

 

Disabilit-e News provides information about what is happening within the county, nationally and in the elite world of disability sport. It will also advertises courses, clubs, events and success stories to motivate and inspire.There is also a dedicated section on Aiming High and the good work it is doing to promote activity based short breaks for disabled children and families.

New Member Joins SASSOT's Board

 

A new representative, Carl Bennett, has been appointed to join SASSOT's Board as Equity Champion.

  

Carl is currently a Senior Health Improvement Specialist with NHS Stoke-on-Trent and has wide-ranging knowledge of the health inequalities agenda and sports development.

 

Carl is a Fellow of the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management.

 

Carl is well know by many local partners through his current employment and his involvement with SASSOT for many years. Carl was also instrumental in establishing the County Sports Partnership we know today. 

His first Board meeting as Equity Champion will be on 27 October 2010.

Active People Survey 4: Quarter Two Results

 

The fourth year of the survey, Active People Survey, started in mid October 2009 and is running continuously for 12 months until mid October 2010.

Due to the continuous nature of the survey, Sport England publish regular rolling updates based on results from the four most recent quarters of the survey.

 

Below are the Quarter Two results for the measurements NI8 and the One Million Target.  Please note that for the 'One Million Target' Quarter One results are also shown in the table to allow you to review positive or negative directions of travel.

 

One Million Target

The 'one million' target is the percentage of the adult population participating in at least 30 minutes of sport, at least moderate intensity at least 3 times a week

NB The One Million Target has a narrower focus of activities and does not include recreational walking or cycling.

 

 

 

One Million Result Summary: Cannock Chase, Newcastle-Under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent have all experienced positive directions of travel from quarter one to quarter two against the one million target. SASSOT as CSP area has demonstrated a negative direction of travel, as have 4 of the 6 CSP that make up the West Midlands.  The National result for Quarter Two is 16.6% and the Regional result for the West Midlands in 15.1%

 

NI8

NI 8 is the percentage of adult population in a local area who participated in sport and active recreation, at moderate intensity, for at least 30 minutes on at least 12 days out of the last 4 weeks (equivalent to 30 minutes on 3 or more days a week)

NI 8 Summary: Five of the nine authorities have witnessed positive directions of travel including Lichfield, South Staffordshire, Stafford, Stoke-on-Trent and Tamworth.  The authority that has experienced the greatest percentage increase of 1.3%

 

Further updates will be published in September 2010, and annual results from Active People Survey 4 will be published in December 2010.
