Staffordshire schools on the verge of tag rugby national success
Following on from 12 district tag rugby tournaments, two Staffordshire schools have qualified for the national finals after finishing first and second in the regional heats. The schools, Langdale (Newcastle) and Christchurch (Stone), now go on to play the best England has to offer at Rugby School on 9th July.
Over the last two months there have been 12 district tag festivals across the county to decide the 24 teams to represent their districts at the Staffordshire Youth Games on 5th July. As per normal these have been keenly contested with some exceptional rugby played at all of the festivals.
Also on 11th June Lichfield R.F.C. hosted the West Midlands Regional Tag Finals where Staffordshire were represented by Park Hall School (Stoke), Colwich School (Stafford), Christchurch School (Stone) and Langdale School (Newcastle).
The tournament comprised of 19 schools from across the whole of the West Midlands and the Staffordshire Schools acquitted themselves extremely well with Christchurch winning the event beating Langdale in the final which meant that both schools will now go onto the national finals at Rugby School on 9th July. Park Hall were also a credit to the county and were awarded the fair play trophy for the event.
All in all a very successful day for the county and hopefully the county finals day, at Fenton Manor Sports Complex, will see a similar standard of rugby.
