Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Special Schools Sports Festival - 1st July 2010
The Special Schools Sports Festival organised by Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (SASSOT) continues to go from strength to strength and will be in its ninth year when it is held on Thursday 1st July at Shobnall Leisure Complex, Burton upon Trent.
The date was chosen so that it ties in with the Youth Sport Trust’s National School Sport week, which starts on Monday 28th June. The aim of this week is to celebrate all that has been achieved in PE and School Sport and encourage all schools to raise the profile of PE & School Sport at a local level.
The Special Schools Sports Festival will feature coaching sessions and mini competitions in athletics, cricket, football, badminton, tag rugby, zone hockey and archery.
The Mayor of East Staffordshire, Councillor David Leese and former Great Britain Paralympian, Marcus Asbury will be supporting the athletes on the day.
SASSOT’s Club Development Manager Chris Turner commented, “We’re delighted with the response to this year’s festival. We’ll have over 350 athletes participating at Shobnall representing 14 of the county’s special schools. The festival will provide a day to celebrate sport and to develop pathways for pupils to continue to participate in sport outside of the school environment.”
