Cheerleading County Finals & Girls Active Group at Stafford Leisure Centre |
||
The Girls Active groups from secondary schools in Stafford and Stone recently all met up at Stafford Leisure Centre. The event, organised by the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership and kindly hosted by Stafford Leisure Centre, was a huge success. Nearly 50 girls took turns in playing "stackers", competing on the dance mats and taking part in activities in the new HZone. Girls Active groups in Stafford and Stone aim to increase participation by all girls in PE, sport and physical activity.

Cheerleading Primary School County Finals
April 2011 saw two primary schools from Stafford take part in the Staffordshire Cheerleading County Finals at Fenton Manor Leisure Centre. The two schools were Barnfields and John Wheeldon Primary Schools who were both representing the Stafford and Stone School Sports Partnership.
The girls were told that they would get the chance to have a practise run through on the floor before the actual competition began. Barnfields had their warm up second which went really well and so gave the girls the extra bit of confidence they needed. John Wheeldon followed which again went really well. After all the schools had completed their practise, it was time for the competition to begin.
Barnfields performed their routine brilliantly with all their dance sequences being in time and their stunts done perfectly. Feedback from the judges was all very positive. Lyndsey Meek, one of the coaches from the Stafford and Stone Schools Sport Partnership stated: “The girls have done fantastic and they should be very pleased with themselves."

John Wheeldon performed their routine tremendously with all their stunts showing great strength and trust in each other as a team. Coach Jessica Perry from the Stafford and Stone School Sports Partnership stated: “The girls could not have done the routine any better and they should be very proud with what they have achieved." The girls were excited to find out how they had done and so sat patiently for the results. John Wheeldon finished in 3rd and Barnfields finished in 4th place.The girls were a little disappointed; however they knew they could not have done the routines any better.

At the end of the event, coach Jess said: “The girls are a credit to the school and both Lyndsey and I are very proud of how well they have done. We couldn’t have asked for more hard working, dedicated girls. They should be extremely proud of themselves."
Partnership Development Manager Steve Glover added: "We have been developing Cheerleading in the partnership over the last two years and are delighted in the way these girls performed. Many of them attend Stafford Flames Cheer club which now has two popular club nights."
