WOOLSTANTON Golf Club is serving up a second round of golf lessons for beginners.
The club near Newcastle under Lyme signed up for a major campaign aimed at increasing participation in the sport across Staffordshire.
The Go4Green project makes it easier than ever for adults to start playing golf – and includes the fantastic offer of FIVE introductory lessons with a qualified PGA coach at the bargain price of just £25.
Those taking part do not even need their own golf clubs.
Such was the enthusiastic response the club received to its first sessions, it is now holding a second run of lessons starting on June 16.
Anyone interested in signing up should contact club professional Nigel Onions on 01782 or by e-mail at pro@nigelonions.plus.com
The club is busy looking for new recruits and is putting out leaflets promoting the event in local libraries, sports centres and newsagents.
Clubs across the county are backing the scheme which is being organised by the Staffordshire County Golf Partnership.
“Anybody who would like to give golf a go should sign up for the Go 4 Green sessions,” says County Golf Development Officer Sean Hammill.
“Lessons will be provided by PGA qualified professionals and all equipment will be provided.
“The combination of quality coaching delivered by qualified professionals, the low-cost price and the fact that there is no need to pay out for equipment makes this the ideal option for someone considering taking up golf.”
The other clubs taking part include Barlaston Golf Club, Branston Golf and Country Club, Brocton Hall GC, Drayton Park GC, Ingestre Park GC, Izaak Walton GC, Keele Driving Range, Leek GC, Lichfield Golf and Country Club, Penn GC, Perton Park GC, The Manor GC, near Uttoxeter, The 3 Hammers Golf Complex, The Range at Essington, Trentham GC, South Staffs GC and Uttoxeter GC.
The Go4Green initiative is aimed at increasing the number of adult players coming into the sport and encouraging them to take up membership at their local golf club.
The Go 4 Green campaign is one of a number of initiatives undertaken by The Staffordshire Golf Partnership, which is a collaboration of a number of stakeholders in the sport including the English Golf Union, The English Women's Golf Association, the PGA, the Golf Foundation and Sport England.
In Staffordshire the partnership is supported by the Staffordshire Ladies County Golf Association, the Staffordshire Union of Golf Clubs and the Staffordshire PGA.

GolfMark first for Staffordshire club
One of Staffordshire's oldest golf clubs is looking to a bright future – after achieving a sporting first for the county.
Brocton Hall Golf Club has not only been awarded GolfMark for its child-friendly approach to introducing juniors to the sport, it is also the first club in Staffordshire to be credited with High Achiever status.
GolfMark is a national scheme that incorporates Clubmark and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities that focus on Coaching and Playing, Club Environment and Child Protection, and Duty of Care, all of which are extremely important to parents and children alike.

High Achiever status is awarded to clubs that go above and beyond the standards set for GolfMark.
Brocton Hall junior organiser Christine Davies, a PGA Level One coach herself, said: “We are very proud to have achieved this award – and thanks should go to the Management Committee and everyone at the club who has supported our efforts.
“This is a great step forward for the club and means exciting times lie ahead. GolfMark means anyone coming to the club knows they will receive a high standard of coaching and care.
“We are one of the well established clubs in the area, but think it is important to take a forward thinking, friendly approach to helping people take up golf.”
The club – which was first established in 1894 – offers junior coaching to both members and non-members.
Head teaching professional Jonathan Watts has also been building strong links with local primary schools through Tri Golf sessions, as well as working in special needs schools in the area. The club now hopes to forge new ties to neighbouring secondary schools.
The club, in Sawpit Lane, Brocton, near Stafford, has supported the work of the Staffordshire County Golf Partnership in running schemes like the Girls Go4Green, with two groups enjoying lessons at the course, which is also a centre for the Staffordshire County Academy.
As well as encouraging junior golf, courses for adult beginners have also been held and it is planned to expand these in the summer.
“We believe it is about making golf as accessible as possible and breaking down some of the perceptions of the sport,” said Jonathan Watts, who has attended local summer fetes to help promote the message of how easy it is to get into golf in the 21st century. “High Achiever status is a stamp of quality for what is on offer at Brocton Hall.”
Weekly junior sessions are held at the club in school term time, while junior academy days will be held in the summer holidays. If you would like to find out more or have a trial session, contact Jonathan Watts on jonathanwatts@golfacademy.uk.com or ring the pro's shop on 01785 661 485.
Sean Hammill, county development officer for the Staffordshire County Golf Partnership, said: “This is a tremendous achievement for Brocton Hall thanks to a lot of hard work and support by people throughout the club and shows what progress can be made when a club takes a proactive approach to introducing golf to both juniors and adult beginners.”
GolfMark is an initiative jointly provided by the EGU and EWGA via the England Golf Partnership’s ‘Whole Sport Plan’ for golf and is an integral part of the England Golf Partnership’s vision to ‘Grow the Game’.
GolfMark is also one of a number of projects aimed at increasing participation in golf run under the umbrella of the Staffordshire Golf Partnership. This is a collaboration of a number of stakeholders in the sport including the English Golf Union, The English Women's Golf Association, the PGA, the Golf Foundation and Sport England. In Staffordshire the partnership is supported by the Staffordshire Ladies County Golf Association, the Staffordshire Union of Golf Clubs and the Staffordshire PGA.

Burroughs Award A STAFFORDSHIRE golf coach has won a top national award for his work with special needs children.
“I wanted to find a way to put something back into the sport that I have got such a lot out of.”
The 30 year-old, who is also county development officer for the Cheshire Golf Partnership, was one of the first to qualify as a PGA professional through the foundation degree programme at The Belfry and has since gone on to achieve AA status – the highest available.
He started to work with special needs children in 2010 and now works with four disability sport and leisure development groups, including one in Newcastle under Lyme, where he is the vice-chairman.
He has worked closely with Mark Fosbrook, Disability Sport and Physical Activity Officer at Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. He helped establish a programme through five primary and secondary schools using Tri Golf and X-Treme, culminating in a festival at Two Rivers School in Tamworth.
Formerly head professional at The Chase Golf Club in Staffordshire, Craig is one of three founder members of the Golf Academy, based at The Range, in Essington, and Greenfield Golf Club near Wolverhampton, which has recently been awarded RangeMark.
The Academy has concentrated its efforts on opening up the sport to all-comers and is working closely with Cannock and Stafford Council to help form a golf development team to help get people from Cannock into golf.
“I believe it is important that we make golf as accessible and affordable to people to give them the best possible opportunities to take up the sport,” he added.
Sean Hammill, county development officer for the Staffordshire Golf Partnership, said: “Craig has done a fantastic job in leading the work of the Partnership's disability programme and his award is well deserved and a fitting reflection on the work done to encourage people of all ages and abilities into golf.”
