FA West Midland Regional Female Coach Mentoring Programme
The second year of the West Midland Regional FA Coach Mentoring Programme has now been completed with a total of 18 female coaches completing their FA Level 2 qualification.
Thanks to funding gained from Sport England, the West Midland Regional Female Coach Mentoring Programme has again been provided to support female football coaches from the five Counties in the West Midlands (Birmingham, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Worcestershire) to work towards and complete their FA Level 2 in Football Coaching.
The programme, which first started in 2007, aims to identify female FA Level 1 coaches who are keen to work towards and complete the FA Level 2 and provide a comprehensive support programme from start to finish, providing each coach with relevant, up to date and practical support throughout the programme.
All of the coaches were required to apply to the second year of the programme and, once their place had been offered, their journey began in March 2010. From there on, the coaches attended regular pre-course workshops and meetings both regionally and within their County along with their County Football Development Officer to help build up to the course.
Every coach was also assigned a mentor whose responsibility was to act as an advisor and role model to the coach, helping to develop the coach around specific support areas identified by both the coach and mentor, providing feedback to coaching sessions the coach is delivering both prior to and after taking their Level 2 training week.
Working with Jason Withe, FA Licensed Tutor and additional FA staff, all coaches received 5 months of pre-course support prior to taking the Level 2 course in August 2010. This support continued after the course up until taking their final assessments in February 2011.
All 18 of the female coaches have now completed the programme and are now working within local grassroots clubs and the community back in their counties.
A number of the coaches were on hand recently to collect their FA Level 2 certificates at the Women’s FA Cup Final at the Ricoh Arena, presented to them by Sue Hough, Chair of the FA Women’s Committee and Rachel Pavlou, National Women’s Football Development Manager.
If you are interested in finding out further information regarding the programme or if you would like any support with getting into or developing your coaching, please do not hesitate to contact the Staffordshire FA or visit www.staffordshirefa.com
