London 2012
The West Midlands Region has set out its priorities for its contribution to the success of the 2012 Games in the recent ‘Prepare for 2012’ publication. Contained within is Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent’s sub regional priorities:
‘We have clearly defined our priorities to ensure that all areas of the community and the local business sector benefit from the opportunities that the 2012 Games offer.
The sub region will see potential new facilities being developed, from a new Sports Village at Fenton Manor in Stoke-on-Trent to an Equestrian Centre in Leek, through to a Hockey Centre in Cannock and an FA Training Centre at Burton-upon-Trent.
Additional athlete and support infrastructure programmes are being developed which will support early identification in schools of potential athletes, volunteer recruitment and development support packages and assistance for future Olympians and Paralympians.
These priorities, linked to the great facilities and infrastructure already in place, will give sport in the sub region a fantastic present and future.
In terms of business, Stoke-on-Trent has now hosted two business seminars and continues to work with local firms bidding for contracts.’
