Sporting Champions - new allocation of free visits
Sporting Champions inspires young people by giving them the chance to meet their sporting heroes face-to-face and gives us the opportunity to bring world-class athletes into our local community.
Funding secured by Sporting Champions for the period April 08 to 30 September 08 will allow us to apply for a national pot of around 100 FREE community visits. Requests for these visits are to be made via the County Sports Partnership.
What are the key themes and essential visit components?
All visits must support at least one of the key themes:
Increase participation in community sport
School and club links
Leadership and volunteering
Some visits may also be used for work with gifted and talented young people to support Sport England and the Government’s messaging around excellence.
Every visit must also include at least one of the following essential elements:
Motivational talk based on the Champion’s own experience and directly related to the
key theme of the event.
Question and answer session with the young people.
Practical element e.g. workshops, demonstrations, coaching sessions.
Working with schools
Any school planning a community sport and not curriculum PE event can also apply for a Sporting Champions visit, through the County Sports Partnership, providing the key message is school and club links with a view to increasing participation outside of school.
What is the length of lead in time for a visit?
Sporting Champions work around 6 weeks in advance to secure Champions for events. If you have the relevantinformation for a visit, you can request the visit further in advance, however due to Champions’ busyschedules and to avoid disappointment of cancelled visits, the optimum time is around 6weeks in advance.
How to apply - simply complete the attached form (click hereto download) and return to Leigh Mortonlmorton@staffordbc.gov.uk. Your request will then be submitted to Sporting Champions who will
thereafter liaise with you direct regarding the outcome and visit arrangements.
