Stafford honours borough sporting stars

 

The annual Stafford Borough Sports Awards Evening took place in February to recognise the achievements of local sports stars.  The event, organised in partnership with Stafford Borough Council Leisure Services, Staffordshire Newsletter, Staffordshire University and Sport Stafford Borough, attracted over 200 guests to watch the proceedings take place.  Individuals and teams were honoured in a variety of categories ranging from Most Improved Sports Performer to Coach of the Year.  


Stafford and Stone Canoe Club featured strongly on the night and two of the clubs bright young stars secured the main awards of the evening, the male and female Sports Performer of the Year.

 

At the end of the night a special recognition award was presented to veteran cyclist Charlie Betteley who is still an active member of his cycling club at 87 years old!

 

Local business and companies supported the event by sponsoring an award, including Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent who sponsored the Junior Team Performance of the Year award.
