Stoke City High 5 Netball Tournament 2007/08
High 5 Netballhas been introduced by England Netball to ensure that players, teachers and coaches enjoy a positive, pleasurable and progressive introduction to netball. The rules have been modified to allow pupils greater freedom around the court and to give them more time to make their decisions and act upon them. This encourages a flowing game through which players
can build up a range of movement skills and develop the concept of team work, whilst improving their health and fitness at the same time.
On Monday 18th February 2008, the Stoke City High 5 Netball Tournament was held at Fenton Manor. Twelve teams in total competed, comprising of six teams from North Stoke and six teams from South Stoke. All twelve teams had qualified to play by finishing in the top 6 positions in their respective Stoke North and Stoke South Partnership Tournaments.
Sports Leaders from Brownhills, James Brindley, Holden Lane, St Joseph’s, St Peter’s and the Sixth Form College, assisted with the running of the tournament. Their roles included officiating, timekeeping and assisting players with their roles as scorers and centre pass markers. It was thanks to the hard work of all the leaders involved that the tournament ran so smoothly
The tournament ran in two sections, with semi-finals, play-offs and a final to decide the top four placements. All twelve teams displayed great team work and provided a lot of exciting matches for spectators. Many players demonstrated a high level of skill for their age group and all teams co-operated well.
The results were as follows:
