Playground To Podium

Sport Across Staffordshire & Stoke-on Trent is pleased to announce that they have been awarded the tender agreement by the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) to deliver Staffordshire Playground To Podium- County Athlete Assessment Development day (CAAD).

What is Playground To Podium?

Playground To Podium is a national initiative led by the Youth Sport Trust and Sport England.  This program has been implemented to support the talent identification process of talented disabled athletes by providing clear performance pathways.  Each School Sports Partnership will be holding localised identification days whereby young disabled children will have the opportunity to test their skills at various sports.  The main sports that have been included in the program are; athletics, football, table tennis, swimming and wheelchair basketball.

What are County Athlete Assessment Development Days?

Staffordshire CAAD will be held on Wednesday 10th June at Shobnall Leisure Complex, Burton-on-Trent.  Every young disabled person attending the CAAD will be provided with a profile which defines his or her physical attributes and this profile can assist the athlete to pursue the higher level of coaching and competitive involvement in the sports for which they are physically suited. The profile can also be used to identify areas that need improvement if the young athlete wishes to progress in a particular sport.

Strong links will be established between the CAADs and the National Governing Bodies of Sport and National Disability Sport Organisations to ensure a pathways exists for identified young disabled people to progress to the appropriate performance environment. These events will also provide an opportunity to signpost young disabled children to local sport opportunities, clubs and activities.

Workshops

The SASSOT Education & Training Workshops for 2009 will in April be

at the end of its current programme.  We hope that it has proved to be a valuable asset to your continuing professional development within the world of sport.

We hope that the new detailed programme provided earlier in the year containing information relating to the workshop was a useful tool to understand what had and has been planned.

In the new set of workshops there will some new dates for Safeguarding and Protection of Children and Community First Aid / Cricket First Aid.  The venues to host these workshops will be based in the North and the South of Staffordshire.

As always we do advise that as some sports have more stringent First Aid requirements for Clubmark and coaching purposes, all delegates should check with their NGB before enrolling on these workshops in order to avoid disappointment after the event.

As always, can I please ask that you check the website on a regular basis as updates are always being made to dates and venues

Please be advised that in cases of cancellations, a 5 working day notice period is required.  Delegates can opt to change to another workshop or alternatively send another representative.

If you find that you cannot attend the workshops we have planned, contact Kam and she may be able to help you find alternatives.
