Cash joy for young disabled trampoline fans |
Young trampolinists with disabilities will be bouncing for joy after Cannock Chase Council helped to secure thousands of pounds to boost access to the popular sport.
The Council’s Sports Development Team worked with the G-Force Trampoline and Gymnastics Club to secure £9,000 that will be spent on specialist equipment for special sessions for youngsters with disabilities at Chase and Rugeley leisure centres.
The cash will pay for specialist equipment, including specialist trampolines and large foam steps, as well as funding to allow young people with disabilities to attend sessions free of charge.
The trampolining sessions for youngsters with disabilities take place on Mondays at Chase Leisure Centre and Fridays at Rugeley Leisure Centre from 5.45pm. to 6.45pm. Call Deborah Pearce from the Sports Development Team on 01543 425996 for more information. A range of other trampoline classes are also on offer.
An event is to be held at Chase Leisure Centre in Cannock on 18 April, called Going for Gold, that celebrates all the work that is taking place to encourage young people with disabilities and other access issues in Cannock Chase. It is open to all young people and their families and will include trampolining, football, rock climbing, archery, inflatables and lots of other fun activities. The day also aims to raise awareness of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics and to inspire young people with disabilities to get involved in sport.
Who knows, a future paralympic hero just may come from Cannock Chase.
Councillor Neil Stanley, Cannock Chase Council Leader, said: “The Council is working hard to widen access to sporting opportunities for all Cannock Chase residents, whatever their needs. The trampoline club is one superb example of this and I am delighted at the £9,000 they have been able to attract. I would like to congratulate everyone involved."
