Cannock and Rugeley School Sport Partnership Netball Competition
Year 5 & 6 pupils got the chance to take part in the second partnership High Five netball competition as part of the Cannock and Rugeley School Sport Partnership competition calendar. Over 100 young pupils from 10 primary schools and 5 students from Chase Netball Club took part in a 2? hour competition at Chase Leisure Centre.
Last years County Winners St Mary's, battled throughout their league to tie with West Hill but just lost out on points. West Hill meanwhile continued their form in the final but a late comeback by St Luke's ensured their place as Partnership winners with a closely fought 2 -1 victory.
Lucy Stevenson PDM said: “The tournament was a great success with all teams getting into the spirit of competition, supporting other schools and enjoying themselves. Chase Netball Club have been fantastic, and the event couldn’t have run without them. This is a great event that we will continue to deliver”.
The winners and runners up will now represent the Cannock and Rugeley School Sport Partnership at the Staffordshire High Five Netball County Final on the 22nd March at Fenton Manor.
The High Five Netball competition was run in conjunction by Cannock & Rugeley School Sport Partnership and Chase Netball Club, who support Netball for young people within the area.

South Staffordshire jump for High 5 Netball
Local young people demonstrated their netball skills in a competition jointly organised by the South Staffordshire School Sport Partnership and South Staffordshire District Council.
Eighty-four pupils from four middle schools, Perton, Codsall, Brewood, Bilbrook and three primary schools, Havergal, Glenthorne and Westfield took part in over sixty-six matches of non-stop netball. Every match was very competitive and scores were extremely close.
The competition was hosted at Aldersley Leisure Village providing all pupils the opportunity to play on high quality netball courts.
All of the matches were refereed by leaders from Cheslyn Hay Sport and Community High School. There is a pathway for pupils to access a netball club based at Cheslyn Hay Leisure centre.
Overall winners were Codsall Middle with Havergal runners-up. This was an outstanding performance by Havergal who are a small primary school in Shareshill, however, they have a dedicated teacher who works hard with their young people to consistently produce high quality netball teams.
Codsall Middle School came joint 3rd at the County final at Fenton Manor losing in the semi final to the overall winners.
"My girls thoroughly enjoyed all the matches; it was good for them to keep active and play so much" commented one Head of PE.
Nick Richards, Competition Manager said: The aim for 2011 is to continue organising and delivering high quality High 5 Netball and increase the number of schools taking part.

North Staffordshire Dodgeball off to a flying start
On 1st March 2010, at Fenton Manor, 35 teams from North Staffordshire took part in the first ever inter-partnership Dodgeball competition.
The response to the invite was superb, the schools loved the idea and the players couldn’t wait. Schools in Staffordshire Moorlands, Newcastle under Lyme, North Stoke and South Stoke all descended on Fenton Manor to play Ultimate Dodgeball!
The competition was initiated after feedback from leadership academies, school sport coordinator conferences and partnership games events.
Thirty-five teams took part on 6 arenas and played in groups of 5/6. The winners of groups A,B and C went through to the semi finals with the best placed runner up in both the boys and girls sections.
The competition was targeted at key stage 4 girls and boys giving them the opportunity to compete in an inter-school competition in a non-traditional activity.
“We thought the competition may be well received but I never thought we would have the level of interest we had. Within 5 days of the invites being emailed to the schools, the competition was full with a waiting list of 4 other schools” said Andy Moon.
Schools participated in short, sharp games of a maximum of 3 minutes and played a minimum of 5/6 group games. The semi finalists were - boys – St Peter's, Longton, St John Fisher and Painsley. Girls – Wolstanton, Sir Thomas Boughey, Berryhill and St John Fisher.
In the finals St John Fisher were all conquering defeating St Peter's in the boys' event and Wolstanton in the girls. Congratulations to St John Fisher.
