Young rugby volunteers learn leadership in Staffordshire & Leicestershire
40 young leaders from across Staffordshire & Leicestershire took part in vRugby Young Leaders Days during February half term.
The events were the first of their kind to take place in each county. Rugby Clubs, Schools & Colleges were asked to nominate their most promising young leaders, aged 16 to 19 years old, to attend the Young Leaders Days.
During the days, the young leaders took part in a series of workshops giving them the opportunity to develop their leadership skills in different settings. The workshops included coaching, refereeing, event planning and effective teamwork.
The programme was designed by a management team that included the County vRugby Activators, relevant Constituent Bodies (Leicestershire RU & Staffordshire RU) and RFU staff.
Alex Thompson, the Rugby Football Union’s Volunteer Executive for the Midlands said: “The days have been a huge success. For the first time in both counties every young leader has left the days with an individual action plan, which will be taken back to their club or college and used to formulate a personal development plan”
“It’s great to see young leaders come together from different backgrounds and develop their skills through working together. The RFU and the Constituent Bodies (Leicestershire RU & Staffordshire RU) are committed to developing a skilled volunteer workforce to ensure rugby thrives. This day will go a long way to ensuring that we achieve that goal. We expect to see these young people come through this programme and add a great value to rugby for
years to come.”
