A Guide to Junior Tennis Competitions in Staffordshire
We've been quick to welcome new measures of success for tennis following the release of our Blueprint back in Autumn. They are the number of players in the top 100 in the world, the number of 12-18 year olds on track to be in the top 100 in the world and, most relevant locally, the number of juniors regularly competing. This will be the focus of my role in Tennis Staffordshire.
So I’ve hit the ground running and worked very closely
with our clubs, coaches and referees for the last few months building a stronger competitive framework than we’ve seen for many years. We’re trying some new things including weekly Ariel Mini Tennis League fixtures and a couple of Try Out Tennis Events intended to help players progress from Ariel Mini Tennis into Grade 5 and 6 events in tennis. Players will find many more events at Grade 5 and 6 run locally for them by clubs. These include Tipton Sports
Academy’s Fast Track Tennis Events, Next Generation Club’s Playback Tennis Events and Total Performance Racquets’ TP Tennis Events.
By the time you read this our new Guide to Junior Tennis Competitions in Staffordshire will have been sent to every player who played in a LTA competition in the last year. As well as any other players we know about, our clubs and our coaches. This contains all the details of any junior competition in Staffordshire reflecting the new things previously mentioned. It has been put together from a player’s perspective making it as easy as possible to
understand the competitive structure and enter events/tournaments. Alongside the details of all the competitions are entry forms – every entry form you’ll need for the Summer! No more looking up where you want to play and phoning organisers for entry forms. I’ve done that for you and all you have to do is pull it out of the Guide, fill it out and send it in. I hope players feel this has saved them a lot of time that I hope they spend on court
instead!
