Staying Active Stafford......making more of life |
Age Concern Stafford and District have received a £15,863 National Lottery award through Sport England; this was part of the portfolio of bids submitted by Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. This money will be used to fund a Staying Active Co-ordinator to train and co-ordinate volunteers to promote sport amongst people aged 50 and over.
The project will provide information on community activities via a website www.stayingactivestafford.org.uk .
It will support groups providing activity for older people as well as training and supporting volunteers to run exercise sessions within the community.
The project aims to increase the amount of older people participating in exercise and encourage volunteering within the Stafford District Area.
Mark Thornewill, Director, Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent said: “We are delighted to hear of the award. The Partnership supported the Stafford District in developing their application for ‘Staying Active Stafford’, which we feel will make a fundamental contribution towards us achieving increasingly active, healthy and successful communities across the area.”
If you would like to discuss the possibility of volunteering or you are a group who requires support in providing exercise please contact: Elaine Walker – Staying Active Co-ordinator on 01785 607060.
