Girls in Stafford and Stone shine on the soccer pitch |
Local schoolgirls showed their skills on the football pitch recently when taking part in a partnership event.
16 teams, from years 7-10, took part in two separate football tournaments at Sir Graham Balfour High School, organised by the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership (SSSSP).
Overall winners in the Year 7/8 tournament were Christchurch Middle School, who beat Walton Priory Middle School in a nail biting final which was decided on a golden goal.
In the Year 9/10 tournament Alleyne’s High School, Stone, were unbeaten in their six matches, winning four. Second place went to Blessed William Howard with Walton High third.
Both winning schools will go forward to play in the FA County Finals held in Stoke in June.
Other schools competing were King Edward VI, Stafford Sports College, and the host school Sir Graham Balfour.
All schools were offered coaching prior to the festival, funded by Sport Unlimited. Stafford Town FC conducted all the sessions and more than 100 girls took part.
The festival was run in conjunction with Staffordshire FA and funding was provided by the FA to purchase goals for future girl’s football events.
The Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership were delighted with the two recent girls' football festivals. In total more than 150 girls took part.
“This is the second year we have organised the festival and it is has become more popular each year. Sir Graham Balfour pupils were excellent in the way they helped organise with the smooth running of both events. We hope next year to make the events even bigger and better.” said Nick Richards Competition Manager.
