Playground to the Podium of Manchester

Staffordshire Moorlands School Sports Partnership took 18 pupils, all of whom had participated in the Playground to Podium programme, to the Velodrome in Manchester to watch the paralympians from Beijing compete in the track cycling as part of the Paralympic world cup being held in the city.

The pupils had previously attended an aquatics and multi-sports identifying ability day in Leek, where pupils with a disability were invited to come along and try different sports. Those who showed a talent in any of the activities were then invited to a county athlete identification day to be held in June.

Zoe Harp Assistant PDM said: “We hope that taking these pupils up to Manchester, to see these world class athletes, will inspire them to take their sports on to the next level when they attend the county athlete identification day."
