Roll on the Summer
The Burton & District Crown Green Bowls Development Group has been formed to increase participation, in particular junior players, in the sport of crown green bowls.
Over the past year, they have organised half-term bowls sessions based at local clubs and have attracted around 80 potential new players, a lot of these are families, not just children.
To continue the developments from last year, the group have now organised after school bowls sessions linking certain schools to the nearest bowls club and in some cases, they are next door to each other, this has been greatly supported by the clubs and the Community & Learning Partnerships in this area.
Also, we now have 7 clubs, offering anybody with an interest in learning the game, the chance to attend a Saturday morning session throughout June. All clubs involved have qualified coaches and equipment will be provided. All they ask is that all participants wear flat shoes, for example trainers.
The group have so far succeeded in their efforts to increase participation and with the continued support of the local men’s and ladies leagues and various organisations around East Staffordshire; they are now looking to promote the game even further.
Free Fun was had by all at the Horninglow Playday.
The latest East Staffordshire Satellite Playday took place on Tuesday 13 April at Horninglow Community Park in Burton Upon Trent.
The event was organised by East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Sports Development and Green Spaces Team. The event had over 700 people attend and was hailed as ‘a massive success’ by parents and children. The activities at the event included the Streets Ahead Team, Touch Of Life Dance Crew, a climbing wall and a whole host of other activities for all the family to participate in delivered by local organisations. A good day was had by all.
The next Playday is 3rd June at the JCB playing fields in Rocester, which will be the first of our Olympic themed Playdays this year.
