Sport England Update
Table Tennis takes to the streets
Thousands of people of all ages will be playing table tennis in the street this summer thanks to the first investment of National Lottery funding by Sport England’s Innovation Fund.
The project, Ping!, which runs from 24 July 2010, will see 100 table tennis tables spring up across London’s most visible spaces including squares, landmarks, offices, train stations, community locations and even airports.
Explore Rowing aims to get new and older rowers out on the water
Ten thousand adults will have the chance to try rowing or get back onto the water thanks to a new Sport England funded programme launched by Sir Steve Redgrave this week.
The Explore Rowing programme, run by British Rowing, will make it easier for non-competitive rowers to enjoy the sport.
Community sport’s contribution to improving health and wellbeing has been recognised in two prestigious award schemes.
Sport England-funded StreetGames won the Chief Medical Officer’s bronze award while the Everton Foundation’s mental health programme was named Community Programme of the Year at the Sport Industry Awards.
Sportsmatch - applications are slightly down at the moment, so it would be a good time for people to apply
The Sportsmatch programme makes awards to not-for-profit organisations running projects at a community level which meet one or both of Sport England’s objectives of Grow or Sustain. They do this through matching eligible sponsorship pound for pound, up to a maximum value of £100,000.
Sport England are keen to receive more applications to this programme and there is more information on their funding pages or call 08458 508 508.
