Over 100 youngsters take part in Borough Hockey Tournament
Over a hundred young people took part in the Sports Development Hockey Tournament with Burton Manor Primary School emerging as overall winners.
The Stafford Borough Primary Schools Hockey Tournament took place on Thursday 29th April on a very wet and miserable day at Beaconside Sports Centre. But the bad weather did not dampen the spirits of the year 5&6 pupils taking part in the tournament with many of them playing 5 matches throughout the afternoon.
All of the teams were split into 2 groups where they played in a round-robin style fixture to decide the winners of each group. The final was then played between Bishop Lonsdale Primary School and Burton Manor Primary School with the latter coming out on top with a tight win of 1 – 0.

The youngsters that took part in the tournament, which was organised by the Sports Development team, had a great day and thoroughly enjoyed the whole event. School teams from the Stafford Borough area recently battled it out in the district Tag Rugby Tournament at Stafford Rugby Club. The competition was run by the Sports Development Team from the Borough Council and attracted 20 teams from a variety of schools. The teams were made up of both boys and girls from years 5 and 6 and they competed against each other in leagues for a chance to go through to the knock out stages. Stafford Prep School emerged the
overall winners who beat Brooklands in the final.
The competition forms part of the RFU’s ‘Tag to Twickenham’ programme, which creates a pathway for teams to progress through county and regional tournaments with the chance to ultimately play at Twickenham in the National Finals. Stafford Prep School and Brooklands will now go on to represent Stafford at the County Finals later this month.
The tournament was run with support from Stafford Rugby Club and Staffordshire Police whose PCSO’s assisted with a variety of duties on the day.
