Disability Football in Staffordshire
Staffordshire FA Aiming High Disability Programme
Thanks to funding from Aiming High Staffordshire FA will be developing an extensive disability programme for the next 12 months. This will enable Staffordshire FA to enhance our current disability work and offer a more structured delivery programme across the County.
We will be running after school clubs, school holiday activities and weekend trips to professional football clubs including Stoke City FC, Port Vale FC and Burton Albion FC.
Staffordshire Football Association will also be running wheelchair football sessions. This will be the first of its kind in Staffordshire, working with the Wheelchair Football Association to design the programme. It will enable children and young people who use a wheelchair in Staffordshire the opportunity to take part in fun, structured football activity. We are delighted to offer this in Staffordshire.
We have also invested in our workforce. This will enable the workforce to gain the skills they need to support disabled children and young people in mainstream services. Those currently working in disability football will also get the opportunity to up skill their knowledge and expertise to ensure all sessions are led by qualified, competent coaches.
Staffordshire Football Association are running training sessions with coaches, volunteers and parents and carers so more staff will be trained to offer football training and activities to disabled children and young people. This again will help ensure that the football sessions are sustainable and the children and young people can access activity for years to come.
