SHARON Heeley has swapped fairways for roadways to take part in a marathon charity bike ride.
The regional golf development officer is in China for a 450km adventure to raise funds for Women for Women, the charity which funds better health for women and babies.
Sharon – whose area includes Shropshire, Herefordshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire – is saddling up for the Cycle China Challenge after flying to Beijing on 30 April.
The route will take in the sights of Beijing Province, including villages, mountains, lakes and the Great Wall of China.
Sharon, who works for the English Golf Union and the English Women's Golf Association and lives at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire, is being joined on the trip by Emma Lowe, championship manager of the EWGA.

The trip is the culmination of many months fund-raising by Sharon and her supporters, including a Pirates of the Caribbean barbecue and a charity golf day at Henlle Park Golf Club at Oswestry, Shropshire.
Her efforts have already topped the £4,000 mark, but Sharon hopes the China Challenge will raise that figure even higher.
Says Sharon: “This is the 10th women only challenge to raise funds for ground-breaking medical research. Most of us will know someone who has been affected by a condition that the charity, Women for Women, is striving to support.”

WOOLSTANTON Golf Club is going green – in the hope of attracting new players.
The club near Newcastle under Lyne is the latest to sign up for a major campaign aimed at increasing participation in the sport across Staffordshire.
The Go4Green project makes it easier than ever for adults to start playing golf – and includes the fantastic offer of FIVE introductory lessons with a qualified PGA coach at the bargain price of just £25.
Those taking part do not even need their own golf clubs.
Woolstanton hold their first session on Thursday, May 12 (6.30pm). Anyone interested in signing up should contact club professional Nigel Onions on 01782 or by e-mail at pro@nigelonions.plus.com
Clubs across the county are backing the scheme which is being organised by the Staffordshire County Golf Partnership.
“Anybody who would like to give golf a go should sign up for the Go 4 Green sessions,” says County Golf Development Officer Sean Hammill.
“Lessons will be provided by PGA qualified professionals and all equipment will be provided.
“The combination of quality coaching delivered by qualified professionals, the low-cost price and the fact that there is no need to pay out for equipment makes this the ideal option for someone considering taking up golf.”
The other clubs taking part include Barlaston Golf Club, Branston Golf and Country Club, Brocton Hall GC, Drayton Park GC, Ingestre Park GC, Izaak Walton GC, Keele Driving Range, Leek GC, Lichfield Golf and Country Club, Penn GC, Perton Park GC, The Manor GC, near Uttoxeter, The 3 Hammers Golf Complex, The Range at Essington, Trentham GC, South Staffs GC and Uttoxeter GC.
The Go4Green initiative is aimed at increasing the number of adult players coming into the sport and encouraging them to take up membership at their local golf club.
The Go 4 Green campaign is one of a number of initiatives undertaken by The Staffordshire Golf Partnership, which is a collaboration of a number of stakeholders in the sport including the English Golf Union, The English Women's Golf Association, the PGA, the Golf Foundation and Sport England.
In Staffordshire the partnership is supported by the Staffordshire Ladies County Golf Association, the Staffordshire Union of Golf Clubs and the Staffordshire PGA.
