East Staffordshire School Sport Partnership (ESSSP) worked closely with local golfing partners to provide after school golfing sessions for girls at Uttoxeter Middle Schools; Oldfields Hall and Windsor Park as part of the Sport Unlimited funded Girls go 4 Green project. The sessions were aimed at introducing the girls to golf and encouraging them to continue playing golf at the local clubs; Uttoxeter Golf Club / The Mannor Golf Club.
In addition to developing a school-club link, ESSSP were keen to provide the students with a competitive opportunity on the completion of their school based golf sessions. Therefore JCB Academy and Thomas Alleynes High School leadership students teamed up to design a course and organise a match for the students. The young leaders designed a challenging course including sand bunkers and water hazards! They organised the match as a ‘Texas Scramble’ (form of match play) with the students playing in pairs. Each pair played 8 holes with 6 holes counting towards the overall match score. Congratulations to Oldfields Hall Middle School who were the overall winners by 1 shot!

Students take part in College Games
Students from across Staffordshire have taken part in the College Games organised by Burton and South Derbyshire College in partnership with the East Staffordshire School Sport Partnership and The Star Foundation, a charity, which enables young people to enjoy a range of sporting and creative activities through recycling fundraising campaigns.
Held at Shobnall Leisure Complex, the day saw over 150 16-19 year olds come together from local colleges including Stoke-on-Trent College and South Staffordshire College, to participate in a variety of competitive sports which included table tennis, basketball, netball, football and tag rugby.
The competitive activities were run by the sporting associations affiliated to each sport, and representatives attended the day, providing information about the opportunities available locally for people to get involved in sport. The wining teams where presented with awards by Burton Albion footballer Ryan Austin, with Burton and South Derbyshire College winning the overall event.
Talking about the event, Further Education Sports Co-ordinator at the College Angelo Nel said: “Today has been a great way of involving young people from across the county in a wide variety of competitive sports, this has created a healthy competitive environment. The event has been embraced by all the learners involved, and it is clear that this event has created a positive ‘buzz’ around our campus.
"Similar events like this take place in East Staffordshire through the East Staffordshire School Sport Partnership. Without the support and the network that the East Staffordshire School Sport Partnership provides, events like this in the future are unlikely to take place, and it is clear from today that learners will miss out on a valuable experience.
"It was great that as a College, through the East Staffordshire School Sport Partnership we were able to work closely with the Star Foundation who strives to instil a greater sense of community spirit, by re-investing funds raised back into schools and community projects. In addition, several local companies were very generous in offering their support including Marks and Spencer’s, Fuse4 and Bartrams”.
