SASSOT Community Games Fund

 

Through the Community Games Fund, Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (SASSOT) and South Staffordshire PCT are aiming to support up to 12 community-focused events in 2011, with a grant of a maximum of �500 each that allows communities to come together to host a sporting and cultural celebration of local significance inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

 

To qualify for the fund, the event you organise must be new and must be based within the South Staffordshire PCT area boundaries, which include the Local Authority areas of Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, South Staffordshire, Stafford and Tamworth. 

 

Who could the Community Games Fund support? 

1. Any �not for profit� organisation may apply � e.g. local sports clubs, charities, schools and community groups who are staging new events within the South Staffordshire PCT area boundaries
2. The funding is targeted at assisting voluntary and community groups to run a community games event. A local authority or other statutory organisation can facilitate an event, however, the voluntary and/or community group must be instrumental in the organisation and delivery of the event and benefit from the funding to enable delivery. 

In order for your community games to be supported by this funding, you must also demonstrate how your games will meet the following criteria: 

• Be targeted at adults/families who are inactive
• Be targeted at and held within the most deprived communities within the PCT boundary
• Promote/publicise local sports clubs and physical activity sessions as part of the delivery of the games
• Be Smoke Free (in accordance with the guidance notes)

Should you meet the criteria for this award as stated in the guidance notes and you wish to apply for the funding, you must complete the application form and submit it by the closing date of Friday 17th June 2011.

Register your Community Games !!

 

Please can Community Games organisers planning an event in 2011, register their games at http://www.communitygames.org.uk/content/register-your-games

 

As part of the Community Games support programme, Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (SASSOT) have produced the following to help you once you have registered your Community Games;

1. SASSOT Community Games Fund - up to �500 is available for community organisation to deliver new Community Games in 2011 (click on link for guidance notes and application form)
2. Community Games Event poster - add your event details and print it off or use it electronically in an email/website etc
3. Community Games Promotional poster - add your event details and print it off or use it electronically in an email/website etc 
4. Community Games certificate - add in the details and hand out at the end of your games to participants/volunteers etc 
5. Use of the Community Games logo 
6. Your own website page promoting your games on http://www.communitygames.org.uk/games/staffordshire-stoke-trent 
7. Posters & postcards to promote your event
8. Community Games bunting, flags and banners to hire free of charge for your event

Win a Visit from Wenlock!

The Olympic Mascot Wenlock could be coming to your Games!! Register your Community Games by 30th June 2011 and you will be entered into a prize draw to win an appearance by Wenlock at your Games!

 

Games that have already registered will be entered into the draw as well, and the winning event will drawn at random on 1st July.

 

Please note that four weeks planning time will be needed so if the winning event has already taken place or takes place in July 2011, then Wenlock will come along to your 2012 event.
