County Sports Partnership Update
Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Draft Delivery Plan - April 2008 to March 2009 Consultation
The draft 2008/09 Delivery Plan (click here to view) is currently out for consultation and your comments will be most welcome.
The 08/09 draft Delivery Plan has been developed to take account of developments in the sport, physical education and active recreation at a national and local level.
The Delivery Plan’s aim is to provide clear direction for the Partnership team and to indicate clearly how the team will work with key partners and stakeholders to achieve our targets of increasing participation in sport, PE and active recreation and supporting those with talent to reach their potential.
The format of the draft plan is based on aligning it clearly to the three core functions of a County Sports Partnership:
i) Strategic Co-ordination and Planning
ii) Marketing and Communications
iii) Performance Measurement
The draft plan identifies key tasks to be achieved, milestones, timescales, the lead agency and partners involved, resources required, key performance indicators, annual targets and links with strategic functions and documents.
I am particularly keen to receive Partner’s comments and additions to the plan in terms of specific delivery actions required from the Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (SASSOT) team to support you in achieving the key tasks. If you have any other key tasks, which you feel, should be considered please also include these.
The consultation period will run to Friday 14th December 2007. Please click on the following link to access our on-line feedback form.
Should you wish to discuss any area of the Delivery Plan prior to commenting, I am happy to speak with you, please contact me on 01785 619896.
The final draft Delivery Plan is scheduled to be presented to the SASSOT Executive Board at its meeting on 30th January 2008.
I look forward to receiving your comments and working with you as we strive to achieve our vision of "Increasingly active, healthy and successful communities".
Over the next few newsletters SASSOT will be providing pen portraits of its Executive Board members and detailing their work in their relevant Champion's roles and the positive impacts they’re having.
The Partnership is mindful of the enormous contribution made by its Board Members and in particular via their roles as work-themed Champions.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions of the Board Member ‘featured’ prior to release of the next newsletter and we hope the feature will provide an insight to the CSP’s Board membership, as well as helping to celebrate the positive ways in which their contributions have helped shape the local sporting landscape.
In the meantime, if you wish to find out more about our Executive Board click here.
Following on from SASSOT’s recent achievement of the Preliminary Level of the Equality Standard - A Framework for Sport, Novlette Rennie from the UK Accreditation Panel has written to the Partnership citing a number of key strengths identified in our submission.
Exemplary use of the partners' Memorandum of Understanding, and the Board members' person specifications to commit SASSOT to equality of opportunity
Explicit identification of budget resources to support work on equity
Comprehensive awareness-raising of SASSOT’s commitment to equality
A strong disability research base on which to inform future action
Partnership Director, Mark Thornewill commented, “This is excellent feedback from the Accreditation Panel. The whole team should be justifiably proud of the achievement. Work now begins on achieving the next level.”

Upcoming Workshops
We aim to offer a wide variety of workshops to help clubs, coaches and volunteers develop and keep up to date with topics such as child protection, disability, equity, mentoring, communication, funding and fitness. Our workshops are organised in partnership with sports coach UK, runningsports and a number of First Aid organisers.
Coaches and volunteers, now have an alternative option when taking or renewing their First Aid certificate. Previously, the only course available on our programme was a 6 hour Appointed Person, which entails a high cost in terms of time and cost. In conjunction with the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS), one of the most respected First Aid Training organisations in the country, we will be running a 3 hour Emergency Aid (Community Life Support Course) which will be
relevant for most sports. However, as certain sports have more stringent requirements for Clubmark and coaching purposes, delegates should check with their NGB before enrolling on this course.
We continue to deliver regular workshops such as Safeguarding & Protecting Children, Equity in your Coaching and A Club for All. Please note that due to declining numbers on the Equity in Your Coaching and A Club for All workshops, we are reducing the frequency to two workshops per year. If you find that you cannot attend the workshops we have planned, contact Elaine and she will help you find alternatives.
