Partnership games hits the Staffordshire Moorlands
The first ever Partnership Games for Staffordshire Moorlands took place on Friday 21st and Monday 24th November 2008.
The games held at Fenton Manor Sports Complex were the first of their kind in the Partnership and incorporated round-robin tournaments in 5 aside football, non stop cricket and dodgeball and a butterfly skills circuit and a round-robin doubles tournament in table tennis.
Year 8 pupils from Painsley Catholic High School who were the winners of the 21 Nov event.
Endon High School, Cheadle High School, Painsley Catholic High School, St Edwards Junior High, Woodhouse Middle School, James Bateman Junior High and Churnet View Middle School took part in the games with each school bringing Year 8 pupils to the event. Dodgeball, table tennis and non stop cricket were mixed events with boys only taking part in 5 aside football.
Each school bought 32 young people to the event with 8 participants competing in each sport. The event gave first time competitive opportunities for the 228 young people across the Partnership.
The event on Friday 21st November was won by Painsley Catholic High School and the event on Monday 24th November was won by James Bateman Junior High School. The winning school was calculated by ranking each sport on the final results and calculating an overall winner on that performance.
The event was also supported by 10 Young Leaders from Endon High and 10 Year 8 Young Leaders from Churnet View who offered invaluable support in the organisation and running of the four events.
The event was played in a fantastic spirit and was thoroughly enjoyed by all the young people who took part. The Partnership is now looking towards its next games and will look to build on the success of this event. Teachers and students alike enjoyed the day with the young people suffering from butterflies before the event and returning to school “buzzing” from the excitement!
