Year 3 and 4 Agility Challenge
On 10th and 13th November 2009 Newcastle under Lyme School Sports Partnership and Staffordshire Moorlands School Sports Partnership held their first ever Year 3 and 4 Sportshall Athletics Agility Challenge.
The Newcastle event was held at Keele University and involved six schools from across the partnership. The young people took part in 10 different activities including, standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump, foam javelin, speed bounce, balance test, shuttle run, hi stepper, chest push and target throw.
St Chads, Chesterton Primary, St Marys Primary, Westland’s, Bursley and Hassell Primary took part in the fun and action packed event with Bursley just winning the competition. Young leaders from Madelely High School and St John Fisher supported the event and were professional and courteous at all times.
The Moorlands event also included six schools from across their School Sports Partnership and was held at Biddulph Valley Leisure Centre. Oxhey First School, St Filumenas, Rushton Spencer Primary School, Endon Hall, Dilhorne and Moor first competed in the event with Moor first coming out victorious. Biddulph High School provided 13 leaders for this event and helped run a well organised and efficient event.
Andy Moon, Competition Manager commented: "I am really happy that across both partnerships we have had 120 young people compete in a new, exciting and fun activity which promotes sportshall athletics to them. We only piloted this in Staffordshire six months ago so to achieve these numbers attending is excellent. I look forward to seeing some of them at our Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics in 2010 or defending their Year 3 and 4 crown."
