Managing Medicines in Schools

and Early Years settings

Following DfEs guidance on Managing Medicines in Schools and Early Years settings, the British Heart Foundation - National Centre for Physical Activity have developed this innovative distance learning course with half-day contact training session. The course has been developed to provide activity leaders with information, knowledge of common medical conditions and skills in dealing with asthma, diabetes, the rising problem of childhood obesity and congenital heart conditions and is suitable for:

PE Teachers
Exercise Instructors
Early Years Practitioners
Play/Youth Workers
Teaching Assistants
Students on childcare/early years or teaching courses
Lunchtime supervisors
Anyone working with children

Participants will receive a course pack which includes:

Information about diabetes, asthma, obesity and congenital heart disease;
Information on the benefits of physical activity for children and young people with diabetes, asthma, obesity and congenital heart disease;
Ideas on how to encourage children and young people with diabetes, asthma, obesity and congenital heart disease to be physically active;
Guidelines on safe and effective physical activity for children and young people with diabetes, asthma, obesity and congenital heart disease;
Materials to support professionals in preparing for and delivering physical activity sessions.

British Gymnastics

Schools Registration

The British Gymnastics schools registration scheme is open for the new school year. Schools can register via the 'Schools Registration' option on the British Gymnastics website (www.british-gymnastics.org). Benefits include access to a free termly newsletter, additional free resources and support material, voucher for redemption on BG resources, and entry in to a £500 prize draw.

Reduced price resources

The Key Step and Next Step gymnastics resources are currently available at reduced prices.

The Key Step resource (Floor and Vault competition) is now half price at £17.25, and the Next Step resource packs (Trampolining, Acrobatics and Cheerleading) are also half-price, or you can buy all three for the price of two (£34.50).

The packs are suitable for schools, clubs, leisure centres and other community gymnastics sessions.

Schools Tennis Road Show 2011

With over 1200 people attending the Schools Tennis Road Show in 2009/10, we are delighted to announce that The Schools Tennis Road Show 2011 will take place in March.

The Road Show will visit 16 towns/cities across Great Britain and aims to provide an overview of all the support available to schools from British Tennis. We highlight new resource/product and demonstrate practical ideas for delivering tennis in an educational environment.

We appreciate that this is a difficult time within a changing school sport infrastructure. However, we are committed to support those delivering school sport through these challenging times, to ensure more children and young people continue to have the opportunity to access our sport.

Everyone that attends the Road Show will receive:

Set of 70 Schools Tennis Activity Cards
£50 worth of free Schools Tennis equipment voucher
