City of Stoke AC Event Open Day
The purpose of the event was to increase the profile of the athletic club and athletics in general with a series of sprint races ‘The Sprint Challenge’ where school children across North Staffordshire were invited to participate in sprint races to find sprinting talent and all race entries were free of charge. Whilst the participants were waiting to compete in their prospective sprint races they were able to try out different athletic disciplines such as high jump, shot putt, long jump, some fun based Star Track activities and a special section showing the youngsters how to warm up and warm down as well as sprint starts under the guidance of experienced and expert coaches.
Former world 5000m record holder David Moorcroft MBE & OBE is joined by young athletes from City of Stoke A.C. to promote the clubs open day.
The main guest for the event was David Moorcroft MBE & OBE and former World Record Holder in the 5,000 metres and Commonwealth Gold Medallist, a fine ambassador for the sport of athletics; who met with the Junior Internationals, Festival of Sport Young Ambassadors, participants and was also giving sprint prizes throughout the afternoon.

Santa turns Dimensions into a mini Lapland for a very special Snowpool party
Dimensions Leisure Centre in Stoke-on-Trent is proud to announce they have persuaded Santa to be the guest of honour at their Christmas party on 10 December. Best of all Santa has promised to turn Dimensions splash pool into a mini Lap Land for the evening, covering the slides, water features and beach with copious amounts of snow.
Dimensions Snowpool Party will be held on Friday 10 December from 5.30pm-7pm and 7.30pm-9pm
Due to overwhelming demand, (and the need to provide Rudolf with extra chocolate cookies and milk) Santa will be hosting two parties. For those that can’t wait to plunge into the warm Snowpool water the first party starts at 5.30pm. For those children, (and adults who are children at heart) who have permission to stay up late the second party starts at 7.30pm.
Santa, Rudolf and all his little helpers will arrive at Dimensions from 4pm. It goes without saying that all the little boys and girls who have been good this year can tell him what they would like for Christmas.
Santa’s transformation of Dimensions is full of surprises. Not only has he brought piles and piles of snow from his home in the far north, he’s also transformed our Play Tower into 20ft tall Christmas Toy Tower. This is open from 4pm to 9pm and can be explored and enjoyed by children irrespective of which party they attend.
Back in the pool DJ Elf and his merry band will be blasting out your favourite Christmas hits throughout the night. Hungry and thirsty after all that fun? Then it’s time to take a break from the party and have a rest in ‘Mrs Santas Kitchen’ (formally know as Dimensions Caf? Bar). Ice cold glasses of Jack Frost fruit juice plus a host of hot and cold Christmas nibbles are available throughout the night, (unless Rudolf gets them first).
It certainly won’t be a ‘Silent Night’ on 10 December at Dimensions. You can count on plenty of ‘Jingle Bells’, ‘Rockin Around the Christmas Tree’ and for the adults there may even be a sprinkling of ‘Mistletoe and Wine’. So ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ because ‘Santa Clause is coming to Town’ and creating a very special ‘Winter Wonderland’. It’s bound to be a ‘Fairytale of Dimensions’.
Special Snowpool Party invitations have been crafted in Santa’s workshop and are locked deep inside Dimensions. If you know a little person who would like to attend (and you fancy joining the fun too) just pop along and ask at reception or ring 01782 233500 for more details. All children must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult.

Holden Lane High School's football team enjoy their match day prize after winning the Sir Stanley Mathews Cup
The Sir Stanley Matthews Cup organised by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Staffordshire FA and part financed by Bardon Construction was contested by 11 of the Cities high schools this summer.
Holden Lane High School and Edensor Technical College both fought through to the final which was played wearing replica 1910 strips from Port Vale FC and Stoke City FC. Holden Lane proved victorious winning 1-0 after a close and hard fought contest.
Both teams received their winners and runners up medals from Jean Gough, (Sir Stanley Mathews daughter and patron of the Sir Stanley Matthews Foundation) at the Hardman Football Development Centre in Milton.

Being ‘special guests’ meant more than just a match day ticket in the stands. All members of the team got a behind the scenes tour of Port Vale including meeting the first team and manager Micky Adams. Far from been stuck in one of the stands, the team cheered on Port Vale as they were served lunch in an executive box.
Not to be left out, Edensor Technical College were also treated to a match day experience by Stoke City FC in their game against West Ham on 18 September.
