Calling all girls for girls' rugby coaching
Stafford Borough Council Sports Development will be running a girls' rugby coaching course, and are looking for interested girls to sign up. Aimed at 15 to 18 year olds, the course started on Wednesday 15th October at 7pm, and will run for 10 weeks. The course, run in partnership with Stafford Rugby Club, runs for one hour each week and costs just £1 per session.
“Stafford already boasts participation rates for women’s rugby at higherlevels than the UK average, so I am pleased that we are working with StaffordRugby Club to increase this even more,” commented Mike Smith, Cabinet Member for Leisure.
Sport England have recently invested £36million into a project called 'Sport Unlimited', and this rugby course is one of the first courses to come about as a part of this project. The three-year programme will enable 900,000 more 11-19 year olds to choose from a vast range of sports including several in which Team GB has excelled at the 2008 Olympics.

Sport Unlimited offers young people 10-week taster sessions in sports which they have requested and aims to get 300,000 participants to join clubs and continue with sport when the 10 weeks are up.
The programme, run by Sport England in partnership with the Youth Sports Trust and County Sports Partnerships across England, has already been successfully trail-blazed in 12 areas and will now be fully rolled out across the country, resulting in 4,000 new sporting projects being set up.
Sport Unlimited will make a significant contribution to the Government’s target of giving children and young people the opportunity to do 5 hours of PE and sport a week at school and in the community. The funding is part of the additional £100 million investment in sport for young people announced by thegovernmentin 2007.
The rugby course at Stafford Rugby Club has already started but interested girls should contact Jenny Moore on 01785 619565.
