Step into Sport volunteering placements wanted
The Step into Sport programme is a tool, which enables schools to grow young people as leaders and deploy them as active volunteers both within the school and in community settings.
Community Volunteering is based on the movement of young people from school-based volunteering to community-based through the provision of volunteer placements in high quality sports clubs. After completion of 50,100 or 200 hours of active volunteering they are awarded a nationally recognised Youth Sport Trust certificate.
Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent are currently working with local schools to recruit the latest group of students onto the programme, and we are looking to identify a number of suitable placements that will allow these young people to gain valuable experience of sports volunteering in a number of volunteering roles as identified above.
There are a number of factors that will contribute to a placement being suitable. The placement must be able to:
Develop the skills and knowledge of the young volunteer
Builds on the interest and skills of the young volunteer
Be safe, accessible and suit the times when the young volunteer wants to be volunteering
In order to give the young leader a quality experience whilst undertaking the placement, we would ask that the placement has either the relevant accreditation i.e. NGB Accreditation or Clubmark or are working towards it.
Where the placement is unable to undertake the NGB accreditation we ask for the following as a minimum:
Child Protection Policy (National Governing Body adopted or other)
Volunteer Coordinator/Mentor (training can be provided with no cost)
Affiliation to relevant National Governing Body
Does your club match the suitable criteria? Are you in need of young volunteers?
If your club would like to be involved with the Step into Sport programme please click here to view the Step into Sport Statement of Interest Form. Please complete and return by the 19th November 08.
