County Sports Partnership Update

 

2nd Round of Funding Now Open !!

Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (SASSOT) recognise that a modern network of sports clubs will be the centrepiece of people’s sporting experience and we want to develop welcoming, accessible and accredited sports clubs in partnership with National Governing Bodies of Sport and ensure there is an extensive network of vibrant community sports clubs offering high quality sporting opportunities for young people.

 

One of the key objectives of the SASSOT Club Support Plan is to increase the number of accredited sports clubs across the sub-region.

Evidence collected suggests that accredited clubs have, over the past two years, increased junior participation, raised the number of active, qualified coaches and improved levels of coach qualification, thus making them more effective and sustainable community sports clubs.

 

  

Therefore, SASSOT have introduced the Sports Club Accreditation funding scheme to increase the number of sports clubs being accredited or re-accredited with Clubmark, NGB Accreditation or the SASSOT QualityMark.

 

The funding is available to sports clubs who require financial assistance to achieve and pass their accreditation criteria although it cannot be used for NGB coaching qualifications. Sports clubs requiring funding for coaching qualifications can apply to the SASSOT Coach Scholarship funding scheme. All sports clubs benefiting from this funding must be based within Staffordshire or Stoke on Trent to qualify and commit to achieving accreditation within 6 months.

 

Applications can only be received from sports clubs, NGBs, Local Authority or SSP partners. NGB, LA and SSP partners can submit applications for more than one sports club. All applications will be assessed by the SASSOT Workforce Steering Group.

Exciting New Job Opportunity Puts Disability Sport Top Of The Agenda 
 

Aiming High: Disability Sport & Physical Activity Officer

37 hours per week

12-Month Contract

Salary: £22,221-£23,708 per annum

 

Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent (SASSOT) in partnership with Staffordshire County Council are seeking to appoint a Disability Sport & Physical Activity Officer as part of the national programme 'Aiming High'. 

 

The post will have a responsibility for managing the development of an effective and sustainable disability sport and physical activity strategy in response to identified need.   Working closely with Governing Bodies of Sport, Local Authorities, School Sports Partnerships and the English Federation of Disability Sport the Officer will support the development projects, training and marketing initiatives.

Feeling Good from Head to Toe

 

PAN-WM recently commissioned a piece of work jointly with the NHS West Midlands Regional Development Centre on identifying ways of marketing physical activity for its mental health benefits using a social marketing approach.

 

The aims were threefold:

• Explore the perceptions within two segmented groups relating to mental health and associated benefits of physical activity and exercise.
• Identify barriers associated with physical activity participation.
• Identify ways of ‘selling’ physical activity for its mental health benefits.   

The researchers from Staffordshire University worked with two groups, adults living in a deprived community and older adults. The importance of family as a focal point for activity came out very strongly for the former group as did social contact, maintaining independence and cognitive function for older adults.

Workshops

Some delegates who receive this issue of the newsletter will have received it for the first, or second time round.  I hope you agree that this is a great regular and direct monthly communication with you the Coach / Volunteer.  You will be pleased to learn that there are new workshops available on the website.

  

The workshops that are arranged around the county are done so in order to meet your development needs and equip you to coach to the best of your ability.

 

If you have recently attended a workshop, I really would be interested in your feedback with a view to share the positives with other coaches.  You may call me or send me an email.

 

You may need to attend a Multiskills, Community First Aid, or any other workshop, please visit the website or call me direct on the contact number below if you are unable to locate a suitable session as I can share other dates that are designated "closed workshops" as, on occasion, these can be offered out to others, due to lack of numbers.    

 

If there are any groups or individuals out there, who are seeking something in a particular area or seeking a “Closed” workshop for a group of eight persons or more please contact me and I will do what I can to help.

 

As always we do advise that as some sports have more stringent First Aid requirements for Clubmark and coaching purposes, all delegates should check with their NGB before enrolling on these workshops in order to avoid disappointment after the event.  

 

Can I please ask that you check the website on a regular basis as updates are always being made to dates and venues.

Please be advised that in cases of cancellations, a 5 working day notice period is required.  Delegates can opt to change to another workshop or alternatively send another representative.
