The purpose-built extension to the College’s PE facilities incorporates a four badminton court size hall, a fitness room, changing rooms and toilets, stores and office space. The building is accessible for physically impaired users and is a welcome addition which will be used by the wider Burntwood community. The College has also reinstated two mini soccer pitches on the site for the same purpose.
The Sports Hall is a concrete volumetric system and has been constructed by Construction Direct Ltd, a subsiduary of Roger Bullivant Ltd based in Burton on Trent. The in-house design team was ETC Design Ltd who has worked closely with Construction Direct on two Sports Hall projects for the county council.
The design has been carefully considered to complement the College’s frontage buildings which were replaced in 2004 following an arson attack at the site.
County Councillor Veronica Downes, Cabinet Member for Schools said: “This is a superb facility which will enhance the existing leisure facilities in the Burntwood area and will provide students and the local community access to a wide range of sports and leisure facilities in a welcoming, modern environment. “
Dr Stuart Jones, Head teacher at Chase Terrace Technology College added:
“This project is an excellent example of partnership working and we would like to thank everyone who has been involved. The new sports hall is a very welcome addition to our school and we are delighted with the new sports and leisure facilities”.
