South Staffordshire launch monthly competition night
The monthly competition night is aimed at giving more opportunities to provide regular competitive events held locally in schools across the partnership.
South Staffordshire School Sport Partnership has piloted a successful monthly competition night, targeting pupils in KS3 & KS4 and to provide the opportunity to participate on a regular monthly basis.
The Partnership competition's are held locally with 3 High schools in the north and 3 in the south.
So far 70 pupils in the north of the Partnership; Wolgarston, Great Wyrley, and Cheslyn Hay have taken up the opportunity to be engaged in these new competitions.
Every month an alternative sport is introduced alongside the national priority competitions to engage more pupils to compete against different schools.
All competitions were selected from a partnership mapping programme of sports, which were chosen by the Heads of PE in September.
Included in the events are a series of skill stations aimed at fun as well as participation.
In September and October the competitions were in football and table tennis with badminton, cricket, tennis, and handball to follow later in the year.
In 2010, Years 7, 8, 9, will be offered the opportunities to compete in addition to the established national priority competitions.
“Our aim is to provide more opportunities for young people in KS3 & KS4 to participate in regular competition and have a greater opportunity to represent the School Team” said Nick Richards, Competition Manager for South Staffordshire School Sport Partnership.
