New Netball Club Created Through Community Sports Coach Scheme
Netball in Stafford Borough is thriving due to the creation of a new club that has been set up.
Stafford Netball Club was formed last year with the help of the Community Sports Coach and the Borough’s Sports Development Team. The club is now firmly established and has ensured its sustainability by recruiting volunteers and securing £1,500 of grant funding. The club, based at Stafford Sports College, has grown in numbers with the help of Community Sports Coach Joanne
Barnett. Jo has created excellent school club links through her coaching roles at the club and within local primary schools.
The interest in this new club has been so great that it is almost full to its capacity. If this interest continues, the club will need to recruit new volunteers and expand its training sessions to increase its ability to take on new members.
The club now has weekly training sessions taking place that cater for 8 year olds through to adults and this season have been able to enter one U12 and two U14 & U16 teams into the Staffordshire Junior League. Jo and several volunteers have worked hard to develop the club and have been awarded grant funding from both Sport Relief and Sport Stafford Borough enabling them to purchase their own equipment and kit.
The creation of the club has had a huge impact on the development of Netball within Stafford Borough and would and not have been possible without the Community Sports Coach role.
