Rain didn't stop play for East Staffordshire youngsters
Children and Young People from East Staffordshire braved the weather and still enjoyed a fun packed summer. The Borough Council Sport East Staffs Team and partners put on a whopping 108 sessions over the six weeks holidays and 4,276 children took the opportunity to take part.
The range of activities included cycling, dance, football, multi-sport, climbing, BMX tracking, and sport sessions aimed at disabled youngsters and each one proved popular.
Cllr Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Health and Leisure, said: "It has been a really successful summer. I have been to a number of events and it was great to see so many young people enjoying themselves and achieving success in their sporting activity, whether that means they can now cycle without their stabilisers or perform a pull shot in cricket, they have all done extremely well."
Even the younger children had a great day at this year’s Playday event held on the Washlands; 2,000 children and their families turned out to enjoy a free day of fun.
The Olympics have been an inspiration to our young people and East Staffordshire Sporting Stars helped us raise the Olympic flag at the Town Hall on handover day for the start of London 2012.
