County Sports Partnership Update

 

 

 

SASSOT Sports Club Accreditation Funding

 

Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (SASSOT) recognise that a modern network of sports clubs will be the centrepiece of people’s sporting experience and we want to develop welcoming, accessible and accredited sports clubs in partnership with National Governing Bodies of Sport and ensure there is an extensive network of vibrant community sports clubs offering high quality sporting opportunities for young people.

 

One of the key objectives of the SASSOT Club Support Plan is to increase the number of accredited sports clubs across the sub-region.

 

Evidence collected suggests that accredited clubs have, over the past two years, increased junior participation, raised the number of active, qualified coaches and improved levels of coach qualification, thus making them more effective and sustainable community sports clubs.

 

 

 

Therefore, SASSOT are introducing the Sports Club Accreditation funding scheme to increase the number of sports clubs being accredited or re-accredited with Clubmark, NGB Accreditation or the SASSOT QualityMark.

 

The funding is available to sports clubs who require financial assistance to achieve and pass their accreditation criteria although it cannot be used for NGB coaching qualifications. Sports clubs requiring funding for coaching qualifications can apply to the SASSOT Coach Scholarship funding scheme. All sports clubs benefiting from this funding must be based within Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent to qualify and commit to achieving accreditation within 6 months.

 

Applications can only be received from sports clubs, NGBs, Local Authority or SSP partners. NGB, LA and SSP partners can submit applications for more than one sports club. All applications will be assessed by the SASSOT Workforce Steering Group.

Coach Scholarship Scheme – next round of assessment dates set

 

Are you gearing up for your Winter round of coaching courses? 

 

The next dates for assessing scholarship applications are:

• 4^th November 2009 
  (applications to be received by 21^st October)
• 10^th February 2010
  (applications to be received by 27^th January)  

The SASSOT Coach Scholarship Scheme can assist with the costs of coaching courses.

The next round of applications for the SASSoT Coach Scholarship Scheme will be
assessed on Wednesday 4^th November 2009. (Applications should be in by 21^st October please).

 

The focus of this funding is to train level 1 and 2 coaches, however L3 coaches can be supported where the applicant organisation can provide clear evidence of need. All coaches benefiting from scheme must either work as a coach or reside in the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent sub region to qualify. Grants cannot be awarded retrospectively so all applications must be submitted and approved prior to coaches attending the training that the grant is subsidising.  Applications can only be received from Local Authority, NGB or SSP partners.

Workshops

 

Some readers of this September’s issue of the Newsletter, will have received and read this newsletter for the first time. I wish therefore, to take this opportunity and say           a direct thank you for your continued support for attending the workshops across Staffordshire.

 

Please keep checking the website as I am currently in the process of adding more
Workshops’ as well as the all important Safeguarding and First Aid workshops around the county. 

 

If there are any groups or individuals out there, who are seeking something in a particular area or seeking a “closed” workshop for a group of eight persons or more, please contact me and I will do what I can to help.

 

As part of this newsletter I have attached a link for you to view the workshops with a short flyer for each.  If possible, I would appreciate your support in detaching and displaying the flyers where you feel necessary.  I hope you find the content helpful in understanding what you gain from attending the workshops.

The Role of the Volunteer Coordinator.

• understand the role of the volunteer coordinator
• know how to interpret a club development plan and its volunteering implications
• learn how best to recruit and retain volunteers and recognise and reward them
• know how to access local, regional and national programmes to support the implementation of a volunteer action plan.

As always we do advise that as some sports have more stringent First Aid requirements for Clubmark and coaching purposes, all delegates should check with their NGB before enrolling on these workshops in order to avoid disappointment after the event.  

 

Can I please ask that you check the website on a regular basis as updates are always
being made to dates and venues.

Please be advised that in cases of cancellations, a 5 working day notice period is required.  Delegates can opt to change to another workshop or alternatively send another representative.

Places are still available on the Appointed Persons First Aid Tuesday 6 October at Dudson Centre, Stoke- please call me if you are interested in this 6 hour session - cost is £42.50.
