Become a 2012 Olympic Advocate in your own community!
Community Games provide a great opportunity for you to bring your community together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Community Games Advocates have a key role in inspiring, targeting and promoting Community Games to local leaders and organisations in their areas. We need Community Games Advocates in every part of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to fulfil their role to achieve the target of getting 88 successful Community Games taking place involving over 17,000 participants to experience their ‘Olympic moment’ between now and September 2012.
Community Games Advocates
These will be organisations (and individuals within organisations) who work with target community groups and are able to recognise the wider value/benefit/potential for community groups to engage with the Community Games programme, e.g. Rural Community Councils, local authority leisure services, School Sport Partnerships, Arts Development teams, community development officers, officers, Library services, Scout Associations etc.
Their main role will be to:
Promote / advocate the games to communities they are in contact with
Identify and ‘recruit’ Community Games Organisers by encouraging them to register
Community Games are driven and shaped by the local community. Whilst Community Games advocates should provide local support it is not their role to organise the events.
Benefits of being an Advocate
By becoming a Community Games Advocate your community is going to be eternally grateful to you for facilitating such a great opportunity that has brought them together, developed their skills and has encouraged them to enjoy a fantastic event. Other benefits for Advocates include:
Being part of the West Midlands Community Games ‘Team’, receiving regular newsletters and support
Being linked in to the London 2012 Legacy movement
Accessing information and support to help your local communities
Profiling the achievements of your local communities to a regional audience
Widening your experience and personal development.
Support that you will receive
All Community Games Advocates will receive the following support:
Induction briefing
Access to a closed membership website to download presentational and promotional resources
Information regarding organisations in your area who have registered an interest or a Community Games on the web site
