Lichfield District Community Sports Network
Lichfield District held their first Community Sports Network meeting on 21 March 2007. Local sports clubs and organisations were invited to find out more about the new Delivery System For Sport and Community Sports Networks.
Councillor Val Richards gave an enthusing speech on the challenge and benefits of increasing participation in sport and active recreation. This was followed on by an informative presentation by Helen Spearey, Strategic Director Community Housing and Health on the District Council's priorities and Local Area Agreement and how this will link to the Community Sports Network. A presentation was then provided on the Delivery System for Sport and the purpose and function of a Community Sports Network.
Group discussions then took place on what the Districts Community Sports Network could achieve over the next five years, how clubs and local organisations could benefit from this, what they could contribute, who else needs to be involved and whether they want to be part of the network.
Many of these discussions focused on how this network could help to achieve some of the key focus areas and priorities for Lichfield District Council and the Local Area Agreement. It was also clear that it would bring added benefits to the local sports clubs and community, through clubs working in partnership with organisations involved in the network.
The evening was well received by all who attended. Lichfield District Council are keen to get this group established and will be moving things forward throughout April.
