Support For Stafford Borough Community Sports Network

A successful workshop on a Stafford Borough Community Sports Network was held at the Gatehouse theatre in Stafford on 22 February 2007. There was excellent attendance and commitment towards forming a Community Sports Network from a broad range of organisations. There was representation from Stafford Borough Council Leisure services, Culturegen, Community Safety, Local Agenda 21 and Health Promotion. Other organisations represented were Staffordshire Youth Services, Extended schools, Stafford and Stone School Sports Partnership, Staffordshire Football Association, Stafford Voluntary Centre, County Sports Partnership, South Staffordshire Age Concern. Apologies were given from South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust, Councillor Mike Smith, Rising Brook Baptist Church, Children and Lifelong Learning Partnership and Age concern Stafford District.

The meeting began with a brief presentation on The New Delivery System for Sport, the purpose and make up of a Community Sports Network. Group discussions then took place to address how participation rates could be increased in Stafford Borough. The outcomes from this discussion will form the basis of the work programme for Stafford Borough Community Sports Network. A follow up meeting of the steering group will be arranged in April.
