Channel 4 unveils 2012 Paralympic coverage
Channel 4 has promised to make Paralympic athletes "household names" in its coverage of the 2012 event in London.
The channel, which is the UK's official Paralympics broadcaster, will show at least 150 hours of live coverage.
It has promised to spend £500,000 finding and training people with disabilities to host their coverage.
And, starting later this month, Channel 4 will show a series of programmes designed to raise the Games' profile.
There will also be a 10-week magazine programme called That Paralympic Show, presented by Rick Edwards and wheelchair basketball medallist Ade Adepitan.
Adepitan said the channel's "edgy and fearless" approach "will turn our Paralympians into household names".
Channel 4's acting chief creative officer, Julian Bellamy, said: "This is a big job to do. Research we have done... shows that 84% of the British public couldn't name a single British Paralympian - despite the fact Great Britain came second in the medals table at the Beijing Olympics."
2012 will be the first time Channel 4 has shown the Games. The BBC has covered every other Paralympic Games since 1980.
That Paralympic Show starts Sat 28th August at 1.25pm.
Inside Incredible Athletes starts Sunday 29th August at 9pm.

RYA Sailability Multiclass Regatta Access Liberty sailor David Durston was crowned 2010 Multiclass Champion of Champions as the curtain came down on the fourth annual RYA Sailability Multiclass Regatta at Rutland Sailing Club on Sunday 15 August.
After 10 individual class prizes were determined on the opening day yesterday, day two was all about the race for the prestigious Ken Ellis Trophy as almost 80 sailors in some 60 boats contested the two-race Trophy general handicap series.
Each sailor’s score was determined using the Average Lap method and corrected for the Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) number for the class. And it was David, a member of host club Rutland Sailability who also sails with Swindon-based Whitefriars Sailing for the Disabled, who was revealed as the overall multiclass champion and the winner of the Ken Ellis Trophy at the official prize giving.
David, who also finished at the front of the Access Liberty fleet on Sunday having settled for second spot behind Rutland rival Clare Andrew on Saturday, admitted he was flattered to land the biggest prize of the weekend.
He said: “It is a real honour to have won the Ken Ellis Trophy, there is a lot of history behind the trophy and so I am delighted to receive it, it will go right in the middle of the mantelpiece!

Two golds for GB at Paracycling Road World Champs
The first session of Day 1 of the Paracycling Road World Champs was a great success, with Sarah Storey and David Stone winning their categories for Great Britain.
C5 Women's Time Trial - 22.8km
Sarah Storey was first up for Great Britain on a very pleasant morning in Baie-Comeau. The women faced a tough two laps of the time trial course which included a challenging climb every lap, plus a gradual climb from the start area. Storey was the last rider off in the new C5 womens class, where she had previously been World Champion in the LC1 womens class in 2009, so she had all of the riders in her class ahead of her with the BC coaching staff setup on the
course to give her time checks throughout.
Britons win Austrian and Belgian titles Britain's Andrew Lapthorne, David Phillipson and Alex Jewit all collected NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour titles in Austria and Belgium over the weekend.
Archers secure European medals British archers won a gold medal and four silvers in the team tournaments at the Para Archery Euro Championships, in Vichy, France.
England lose to Brazil in blind football semi-final England's hopes of reaching the final of the World Blind Football Championship are over after they lost 5-1 to Brazil in the semi-final.
Brazil, who are unbeaten in the tournament, outclassed England and will face the only other unbeaten side, Spain, in Sunday's final. The Spaniards left it late to beat China 1-0 in the second semi-final.
France beat Colombia on penalties to win the fifth place play-off, Argentina beat Japan and Greece beat South Korea.
"Brazil were superb and worthy winners and Sunday's final ensures we have the only two unbeaten teams in it," said tournament director Jon Dutton.
"The stage is set for a spectacular game and the third place play-off gives England a chance to sign off in style." |

There are two levels of funding: Up to £1000 - There is a simple one side of A4 application form, requesting the aim, a description of activity, the reason for the request including evidence of bank details with references.

There are also three events being held aimed at supporting community groups and clubs to apply for funding to the 'Staffordshire Cares: Community Wellbeing Fund'.
The events are targeted at South Staffordshire, Lichfield, Newcastle and Staffordshire Moorlands, which were areas we have received fewest applications from. However the events are open to groups and clubs in need of support from across Staffordshire.
Groups and Clubs will be able to book appointments to discuss their project ideas, receive advice about how to complete application forms, as well as advice from CVS Development Workers about alternative funding and infrastructure support, such as how to develop a constitution or establish bank account.
There will also be open workshops, which groups do not need to book, which will give an overview of the 'Community Wellbeing Fund' such as the aims, purpose, processes and questions and answers.
Please promote these events to any community groups that you are working with or are aware of and advise groups to contact myself if they would like to book an appointment or attend the workshop.
The closing date for the next round of applications to the Community Wellbeing Fund is 30th November 2010.
